Local Knowledge

One Neighborhood, Twenty Years of Openers

Flying Horse sits in northern Colorado Springs beneath Pikes Peak, built out from 2004 around the Tom Weiskopf course that opened in August 2005. Its 1,975 homes went up between 2005 and 2024 — an unusually long build-out for a single community.

That span is the thing worth knowing before you call anyone out. A garage door fitted in the first Flying Horse villages and one fitted last year are not the same machine. The early openers are chain-driven, with no Wi-Fi, no battery backup and no camera. The newest are belt drives with app control, backup power and a camera in the head unit. What fails on each — and what is worth repairing rather than replacing — is completely different.

So we ask what year the house was finished before we load the truck. On a 2006 opener the honest question is usually whether a twenty-year-old head unit is worth another repair. On a 2022 one it is almost always a board, a module or a battery rather than the motor, and swapping the whole unit would be money wasted.

Common Flying Horse Garage Door Jobs

What twenty years of build-out actually produces — and how we work out which side of it your door sits on.

Twenty-Year-Old Openers

2005–2010 Villages

Chain drives from the first villages are reaching the end of a normal service life. We will tell you plainly when another repair is worth doing and when it is money spent twice. The decision stays yours either way.

Wi-Fi and App Control

myQ · Newer Head Units

On newer openers an unresponsive door is usually the logic board, the connectivity module or a spent battery backup rather than the motor. Diagnosing that properly costs far less than a replacement — see opener repair.

Battery Backup Failures

Sealed Cells, Finite Life

Backup batteries in newer openers last a few years and then quietly stop holding charge, which most people discover during the first outage after it happens. Straightforward to replace once identified.

Keypads and Remotes

Pairing After a Board Change

Replace a logic board and every remote and keypad has to be paired again. We do that as part of the job and check the photo-eye alignment while we are there, rather than leaving you to work it out afterwards.

The Emergency Release

Worth Understanding

Every door has a manual release for power cuts. It is worth knowing where yours is and how the door behaves once it is pulled. We will show you on the visit and check the cord is set at a sensible height.

Springs Across Both Eras

Old and New Alike

Springs do not care how clever the opener is. Rated for roughly seven years of normal use, they are overdue in the early villages and reaching a first replacement on homes from the middle of the build-out.

Why CS Garage Door

Why Flying Horse Homeowners Call Us First

A twenty-year spread of hardware inside one neighborhood. Here is how we approach a Flying Horse service call.

01

We Ask the Age First

Knowing whether a door is from 2006 or 2022 changes the diagnosis, the parts and the honest recommendation. It is the first thing we ask, and the reason we usually arrive with the right thing already on the truck.

02

Same-Day, No Surcharge

Same price on Saturday as Tuesday. No weekend premium, no after-hours fee. One fair price, always — even for emergency calls.

03

25,000-Cycle Springs

We fit high-grade springs as standard rather than the 10,000-cycle economy springs builders default to. Across a twenty-year-old neighborhood that rating is what decides whether we are back in five years or fifteen.

04

Licensed & Background-Checked

Every technician entering your Flying Horse home is licensed in Colorado, fully insured, and background-verified. Your family’s safety is our priority.

05

Free Safety Inspection

We check cables, drums, rollers, tracks and opener force settings at no cost on every visit, along with the photo-eye sensors that keep the door from closing on something.

06

Written Estimate First

You’ll know the exact cost in writing before we start. No pressure tactics, no surprise charges. If you don’t approve, we don’t proceed.

Got Questions?

Flying Horse Garage Door FAQ

It depends on what has failed. A worn gear or a bad capacitor is a reasonable repair even on an older unit. A failed logic board on a twenty-year-old chain drive usually is not, because the next fault is rarely far behind and parts get harder to source each year. We will give you both numbers in writing and let you decide rather than making that call for you.

Nearly always the connectivity module, the home network, or a logic board rather than the motor. The door itself normally still works from the wall button and the remote, which is a useful thing to check before calling anyone — it tells us straight away which part of the system is at fault.

A few years, and it tends to fail quietly. Most people find out during the first power cut after the cell has stopped holding charge. If your opener beeps or shows a battery warning light it is worth replacing before you need it — it is an inexpensive part.

If the logic board has been replaced, yes — every remote, keypad and vehicle button has to be paired to the new board. We handle that as part of the job before we leave, and we will run through it with you so you can add another remote later without calling us back.

It disconnects the door from the opener so it can be moved by hand during a power cut. It is worth knowing where yours is before you need it. We will point it out on the visit and make sure it is set at a sensible height and not fouling anything as the door travels.

We cover all of Colorado Springs. Nearest to Flying Horse that means Northgate, Briargate, Cordera, Pine Creek and Wolf Ranch. Full list on our service areas page, or read about Northgate, Cordera and Pine Creek.
