My home is one of the originals from the 1960s. Can you still get parts?
For the mechanical parts, usually yes — springs, cables, rollers, drums and hinges are largely standard and still made. The harder ones are matching door sections and boards for very old openers. How do I know whether my opener has safety sensors?
Look at the bottom of both door tracks, roughly six inches off the floor. There should be two small units facing each other with a small indicator light and a wire running back up. If nothing is there, the opener predates the requirement for external entrapment protection. On a house of this vintage with an older opener, that is not unusual and it is worth putting right.
Do you work on the townhomes as well as the houses?
