Local Knowledge
Mid-Century Garages, Modern Vehicles
Skyway sits on the hillside in the southwest, built out through the 1950s, 60s and 70s — mid-century ranches and 1970s split-levels on wooded lots, with city views from the higher streets.
The garages were sized for the cars of the day. A 1960s single bay was built around a vehicle noticeably narrower than what most people park now, and a two-car opening of that era is tighter than a modern one. Add a hillside approach, where you are turning in off a slope rather than rolling straight up a flat drive, and contact with the frame or the door itself is common.
The damage that follows usually looks cosmetic at first — a dented bottom section, a slightly bowed panel. Left alone it turns mechanical, because a distorted panel binds the rollers and pulls the whole door out of true. Where the section is still manufactured we replace individual panels rather than the entire door.

Common Skyway Garage Door Jobs
Tight openings, steep approaches and hardware that has been in place for half a century.
Dented Bottom Sections
Where the Bumper Meets the Door
The commonest damage we see here. A dent looks cosmetic, but a distorted panel binds the rollers and pulls the door out of true over time — see panel replacement.
Tight Mid-Century Openings
A 1960s bay was sized around a narrower vehicle than most people drive now. We measure the actual opening before quoting a replacement, because modern stock sizes do not always map onto what is there.
Hillside Approaches
Coming in off a sloped street means approaching at an angle rather than square on. It is why frames and track brackets on these streets take more knocks than they do on flat ground.
Bent Tracks After Impact
A knock hard enough to dent a panel often moves the track behind it. We check alignment as well as the visible damage, because a door running on a bent track chews through rollers — see cable and track repair.
Split-Level Plans
1970s split-levels frequently put rooms directly beside or above the garage, so a noisy or unbalanced door carries through the structure rather than just through the air.
Original Springs and Openers
Where the hardware is original it is far past its rated life, and openers of that era may predate photo-eye safety sensors entirely. Worth checking what is actually fitted before anything else.
Why CS Garage Door
Why Skyway Homeowners Call Us First
Narrow openings, steep drives and half-century-old hardware. Here is how we approach a call here.
01
We Replace Panels, Not Doors
A dented door is usually a section problem rather than a door problem. Where the panel is still manufactured we replace that alone, which costs a fraction of a full door and leaves the rest of the elevation as it was.
02
Same-Day, No Surcharge
Same price on Saturday as Tuesday. No weekend premium, no after-hours fee. One fair price, always — even for emergency calls.
03
25,000-Cycle Springs
We fit high-grade springs as standard rather than the 10,000-cycle economy grade. On a door this old being put back into proper order, that rating decides how long the work holds.
04
Licensed & Background-Checked
Every technician entering your Skyway home is licensed in Colorado, fully insured, and background-verified. Your family’s safety is our priority.
05
Free Safety Inspection
We check cables, drums, rollers, tracks, force settings and whether any entrapment protection exists at all — at no cost, on every visit.
06
Written Estimate First
You’ll know the exact cost in writing before we start. No pressure tactics, no surprise charges. If you don’t approve, we don’t proceed.
Got Questions?
Skyway Garage Door FAQ
I have dented my garage door. Does the whole door need replacing?
Usually not. Garage doors are built in horizontal sections, and where the damaged section is still manufactured for your model we replace that one alone. It costs a fraction of a full door and leaves the rest of the elevation untouched. If the section has been discontinued, or the denting has distorted the panel enough to bind the rollers, replacement becomes the better option — we will tell you which situation you are in before you commit.
My garage is too narrow for our car. Can the opening be widened?
Widening an opening is structural work — it means altering the header and framing above the door, which is a builder or contractor job rather than a garage door one. What we can do is fit a door to a widened opening once that work is done, and advise on what size and track configuration will suit. We would rather be straight about that than take on something outside what we do.
The door has started catching since I bumped it.
That points to more than the panel. A knock firm enough to dent usually shifts the track behind it or moves a bracket, and the door then runs slightly out of true and binds. Left alone it wears rollers quickly and puts extra load on the opener. Worth having the alignment checked rather than living with it.
My house is a 1970s split-level and the door is noisy.
Split-levels put living space right beside or above the garage, so noise carries through the structure. The usual causes are worn steel rollers, loose hardware after fifty years of vibration, and an original chain-drive opener. Nylon rollers and tightening everything up deal with most of it cheaply; a belt drive handles the rest.
Can you still get parts for a door this old?
For the mechanical parts, usually — springs, cables, rollers, drums and hinges are largely standard and still made. Matching door sections and boards for very old openers are the harder ones. We check what is genuinely available for your model before quoting a timeline rather than after.
